Australia Post Length + Girth Calculator
Australia Post size limits
Australia Post enforces thresholds that affect what you pay and whether your package ships. The calculator above flags each one automatically.
- Up to 40 inches: Standard rates.
- 40 – 55 inches: Australia Post charges by dimensional weight for parcels exceeding standard size thresholds. Cubed pricing applies for low-density items.
- Over 55 inches: Over 140 cm length + girth, or over 105 cm length, parcels require StarTrack or freight services.
Maximum single side: 41 in. Maximum weight: 49 lb. Always verify against the current Australia Post rate guide before shipping high-value items.
How Australia Post measures girth
Australia Post uses the standard girth formula:
girth = 2 × (width + height)
length + girth = length + 2 × (width + height)
Worked example. A 50 × 20 × 20 inch box has girth (20 + 20) × 2 = 80 inches, and length + girth = 130 inches.
Australia Post measures girth around the thickest part — 2 × (W + H) for boxes, circumference for cylinders.
