Two calculators, one tool

The girth calculator for parcels and for people.

Calculate parcel length plus girth against UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, and Royal Mail limits — or measure body girth across twelve anatomical sites for fitness tracking. Free, no signup, your data stays on your device.

What is girth?

Girth has two common meanings depending on context, and the right calculation depends on which one you need.

In shipping, girth is the distance around the thickest part of a parcel — calculated as 2 × (width + height) for a rectangular box. Carriers combine girth with length to enforce package size limits: USPS caps most domestic shipments at 108 inches of length plus girth, while UPS and FedEx Ground allow up to 165 inches. Exceeding the limit triggers oversize surcharges or rejection. Use the shipping calculator →

In fitness and body measurement, girth refers to the circumference of a specific anatomical site — chest, waist, bicep, thigh — measured with a flexible tape pressed flat against the skin. Athletes track girth to monitor hypertrophy, body composition, and proportional development; clinicians use waist and neck girth in body-fat estimation formulas like the US Navy method. Which calculator do I need?

Use the shipping calculator if you are:

  • Sending a parcel and need to check it fits a carrier's size limit
  • Comparing UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, Royal Mail, or Canada Post requirements
  • Shipping an oversize item (bike, fishing rod, guitar, furniture)
  • Calculating volumetric weight for an air freight quote

Use the body calculator if you are:

  • Tracking muscle growth or body composition over a training cycle
  • Recording measurements for a coach, trainer, or nutritionist
  • Estimating body fat percentage using the US Navy or other girth formulas
  • Calculating waist-to-hip ratio or ideal body proportions

Frequently asked

How do I calculate the girth of a parcel?

Measure width and height (the two smaller dimensions), add them, then multiply by 2. To get length + girth, add the longest side. A 20 × 10 × 10 cm box has girth (10 + 10) × 2 = 40 cm and length + girth = 60 cm.

What is the maximum girth for UPS, FedEx, and USPS?

USPS limits length + girth to 108 inches on most domestic services. UPS and FedEx Ground both allow up to 165 inches combined, with packages over 130 inches treated as oversize.

How do I measure body girth accurately?

Use a flexible tape pressed flat against the skin without compressing tissue. Take two readings within 0.5 cm and average them. Measure at the same time of day, ideally morning before exercise.

Do you store my measurements?

No. All measurements stay on your device using browser storage. We never send data to a server. If you clear browser data, your measurements are gone — there is no recovery and no account.

Is this calculator free?

Yes, both calculators and all per-carrier and per-site reference pages are free. The site is supported by display advertising.
